About Us

STARC of La. was organized in 1972. STARC's mission is to provide Services, Training, Advocacy, Resources and Community connections for individuals with intellectual and developmental disABILITIES (IDD). In 2022 STARC celebrated 50 years of service to the community.

STARC's focus is to enrich, enhance, and extend lives through work/training programs, residential housing, supported employment, physical and social/communications, therapy, and greater involvement in art and cultural activities. STARC is seeing the results of our efforts: OUR CLIENTS ARE LIVING LONGER! Individuals who used to live to their mid-thirties are now living meaningful and productive lives into their seventies.

Last fiscal year, the lives of over 600 Northshore residents were healthier and happier, and those same individuals experienced a better quality of life and independence because of STARC's many supporters in the community.

STARC is designated as a 501c3 non profit organization and has a 2025 Platinum status by Guidestar/Candid for the highest nonprofit transparency rating.
